The ultimate hangover cure: the Hangover Smoothie

Can you really party all night without suffering from a hangover all day? We say yes – and show you how.

First aid for hangovers – it’s vitamin time!

Even when it’s not the festive season, there’s usually a good reason to celebrate. A glass of wine here, a beer there, a chaser or two to round things off… drinking like there’s no tomorrow is all very well until you wake up next morning and realise that sadly, there is. Your head feels like it’s about to explode, your stomach is queasy and your legs are not so steady either. Our anti-hangover smoothie recipe explains how to cope with the morning-after blues.

Feeling hung over? Drag yourself out of bed and head straight for your blender. What you need to do now is replenish all the vitamins and nutrients the alcohol removed from your body. So open your fridge and put these ingredients in your blender:

  • 1 avocado the high amounts of essential fatty acids will help your body absorb the vitamins and minerals you’re about to put in
  • 1 banana magnesium is a biological messenger that helps to relax cramped muscles
  • 1 kiwi the A, C, D and B12 vitamins are good for your headache, the iron will help your muscles relax
  • 1 handful fresh mint good for nausea
  • 1 lemon the high vitamin C content boosts your body’s defences and energises your body 
  • 1/2 tin coconut milk contains long-chain fatty acids to boost your metabolism, plus linoleic acid to get your body back on its feet
  • 1 tbsp almond butter contains high levels of essential fatty acids
  • 1 tbsp honey replenishes your sugar levels
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds or linseed (flax seed) contain filling fibre and protein for essential metabolic processes. They also help feed muscles with minerals and replenish your body’s mineral compound reserves
  • At least 200 ml fresh water avoid sparkling (carbonated) water, as your body is dehydrated and over-acidified after breaking down all that alcohol
