DRY SKIN AFTER SHAVING DOESN’T DO MUCH FOR YOUR LOOKS.

Your skin is your biggest sensory organ. The right care stops all skin types from drying out after you shave.

HOW DO I STOP MY SKIN FROM DRYING OUT?

Almost all skin types react to shaving by producing anything from tiny pimples to flaky spots. The cosmetics industry offers a wide range of tubes and pots that care perfectly for all skin types. But to find the product that suits you best, or to use natural products correctly, you need to know what skin type you have.

MOST DERMATOLOGISTS SAY THERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT SKIN TYPES:

Oily skin: Oily skin produces too much sebum (natural skin oil). Telltale signs are shiny patches all over your face, blackheads and whiteheads, and distended or blocked pores.

Normal skin: Normal skin has shiny patches too, particularly in the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), and may also have impurities such as blackheads and blocked pores.

Dry or very dry skin: This is particularly sensitive to shaving. Dry cheeks and skin that feels taut are common. Often, the lack of moisture can cause skin to become flaky. Without regular care, the lack of skin oils can cause little wrinkles and a dull complexion.

Any kind of shaving will attack your skin and dry it out. The results are pimples, irritation and often in-growing hair follicles (which can cause inflammation). But letting nature take its course is definitely not an option; that fluff and undergrowth have got to go!

TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR SKIN TYPE, FOLLOW THESE TIPS FOR ALL SKIN TYPES:

  • First of all, never use cheap blades or disposable razors. And throw out those old blades that are rusting under the shower, or have lost their edge because you wanted to save money.
  • Dermatologists recommend dry shaving for dry skin. It’s gentler, because the blade doesn’t actually touch your skin. But if you prefer to wet shave, do so in the direction of hair growth.
  • Your skin needs both oil and moisture. There is a difference, and your choice of care products should reflect that.
  • Regular care is key – skin gets thirsty too.
  • Directly after you shave or sunbathe, it’s good to give your skin plenty of moisture. Natural ingredients such as aloe vera, cucumber extract etc. are recommended after your skin has been Irritated by having its hair removed or its top layer toasted (also known as getting a tan).
  • To balance your skin’s oil content, use olive oil or shea butter.
  • Dry skin needs regular peelings too. For skin care to be effective, you need to remove the old dry skin flakes first. It’s easy to make body peelings yourself from simple ingredients. Cucumber slices are really useful – and not just on your face.

CONCLUSION

If you shave, you need to care for your skin regularly too. Dry skin prefers dry shaving and natural moisturizing care. It doesn’t always have to be an expensive care product: nature offers lots of things that care for skin the natural way, such as aloe vera, olive oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter etc.
